The error is mine
To correct an email of mine to Coyote, which he then posted, GI AR's have 1-turn-in-7" rifling twist. Some aftermarket shops offer both 1:7 and 1:9. Or, as the rollmarks show it, "1/7."

Maybe the M249's have the slower 1-in-9" twist.
